Objectives:

The primary objective of this project is to conduct a systematic inventory of historical buildings in selected Palestinian LGUs. This project aims to support the official registration and classification of historical buildings in Palestine per Article 43 of the National Register of Heritage, which categorizes heritage into global, national, and local importance. The project will contribute to identifying and documenting such heritage to facilitate its legal registration and protection.

Specific Objectives:

  1. Document the historical buildings in the targeted municipalities.
  2. Feed into the existing database on immovable cultural heritage available at MoTA to support conservation policies and urban planning.
  3. Enhance the capacity of local authorities in managing cultural heritage.
  4. Contribute to ensuring the legal protection of registered properties and support future conservation efforts by providing reliable and updated data.

Methodology:

  1. Forming 10 field teams (20 trained surveyors) equipped with approved survey forms and GIS applications to collect geospatial data on the buildings.
  2. Conducting a comprehensive field survey over 45 actual working days.
  3. Implementing awareness campaigns, including introductory sessions with mayors and local communities, and designing and publishing 5 awareness posts on social media platforms.
  4. Preparing a final report containing detailed data on the classified buildings, documenting their preservation status, and providing recommendations for future protection measures.
