Communication and Advocacy Officer

Position Purpose

The Communication and Advocacy Officer leads the development and implementation of APLA’s communication and advocacy strategies to enhance visibility, influence policy, and strengthen stakeholder engagement. The role oversees media relations, digital platforms, content development, and advocacy campaigns, while ensuring consistent messaging and effective representation of APLA at national and international levels. It also supports internal communication and the organization of key events and governance meetings.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement comprehensive communication and advocacy strategies aligned with APLA’s mission, strategic objectives, and policy priorities.
  2. Lead the planning and execution of APLA’s communication plans, including the development of high-quality informational, advocacy, and public relations materials.
  3. Build and maintain strategic relationships with media, partners, members, and key stakeholders to enhance APLA’s visibility and influence.
  4. Serve as the primary media focal point, managing media relations and proactively securing coverage to promote APLA’s initiatives and advocacy messages.
  5. Develop compelling content (press releases, articles, speeches, briefs, and digital content) to effectively communicate key messages and support advocacy efforts.
  6. Oversee and manage APLA’s digital presence, including social media platforms and communication tools, ensuring consistent engagement and messaging.
  7. Lead the design and implementation of advocacy campaigns, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and maximizing outreach and impact.
  8. Manage public relations activities, including preparing speeches, talking points, and official communication for APLA leadership.
  9. Ensure consistent branding and messaging across all communication channels in line with APLA’s identity and values.
  10. Plan, coordinate, and oversee events, workshops, and official meetings to enhance APLA’s visibility, stakeholder engagement, and networking outcomes.
  11. Supervise the development of multimedia and communication materials (videos, infographics, presentations) to support outreach and advocacy efforts.
  12. Strengthen internal communication by ensuring effective information flow across departments and with APLA members.
  13. Monitor, evaluate, and report on the impact of communication and advocacy activities, providing recommendations for continuous improvement.
  14. Support and expand international cooperation by coordinating communication with international partners, networks, and associations.

Reporting requirements

The Communication and Advocacy Officer will report on a day-to-day basis to the APLA Executive Director.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field.

  • At least 7 years Proven experience in communications, media relations, or a similar role.

Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in Arabic and English.

  • Content development and storytelling skills for different audiences and platforms.

  • Proficiency in managing social media platforms and digital communication tools.

  • Basic design and multimedia skills (e.g., Canva, video editing, presentations).

  • Media relations and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Event planning and coordination skills.

  • Ability to translate technical information into clear, engaging messages.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks.

  • Attention to detail and quality in communication outputs.

  • Analytical skills to monitor and evaluate communication impact.
