In consistence with its strategic goals to enhance the performance and capacity-building of local government units (LGUs), the Association of Palestinian Local Authorities (APLA) held a specialized workshop on Arbitration in Engineering Contracts. Organized over two days via Zoom, the workshop brought together 45 representatives of the LGU Engineering and Planning Hub. It aimed to raise awareness of the Arbitration Law in Palestine and to scale up knowledge and skills needed to implement arbitration mechanisms, particularly in the context of engineering and consultancy contracts.

Arbitration Trainer Eng. Tareq Ahmed delivered a detailed presentation explaining the core concepts of and mechanisms for applying the Arbitration Law within engineering and consultancy contracts. In addition to a review of tools for arbitration and mediation, the session provided an overview of the Palestinian International Arbitration Chamber (PIAC) and its role. The workshop focused on discussing the real-life challenges faced by LGUs when applying arbitration, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills required for an effective implementation of arbitration procedures.

This workshop was organized in the context of the Municipal Technical Exchange Hubs project, implemented in partnership with the GIZ Local Governance Reform Program. The project incorporates six key hubs: Engineering and Planning, Financial Management, Public Relations, Creativity and Innovation, Sustainable Development Goals, and Village Councils.
