Completion of Technical Handover Procedures for the Public Park Project in Al-Fandaqumiya Village

As part of technical follow-up on Sub-grant Initiative projects in Area C, the Association of Palestinian Local Authorities (APLA) carried out a field visit to the village of Al-Fandaqumiya, where the technical handover procedures were finalized for the public park project of the Al-Fandaqumiya Village Council. The project was implemented in cooperation with the village council’s technical team. This initiative is part of a series of interventions undertaken by APLA with the support of the European Union and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). It reflects APLA’s commitment to supporting and enabling local government units (LGUs) to develop public facilities that respond to the needs of local communities, particularly in Area C.

In addition to providing a community space that fosters social and economic inclusion, the project aims to establish a multi-use public park that offers a safe and integrated recreational environment serving both children and youth. It also includes the operation of a cafeteria run by community members, including women and persons with disabilities, enhancing local employment opportunities and strengthening the village council’s income sources.

The project represents a comprehensive model that integrates environmental and developmental dimensions. It provides infrastructure capable of supporting economic tourism by linking the park to nearby natural trails along the historic Ottoman railway route, providing visitors with an interactive experience with the local environment. This intervention reflects APLA’s vision to broaden the scope of LGU efforts in developing high-quality community facilities that strengthen social cohesion and improve equitable access to public spaces and essential services, particularly amid the complex challenges faced by the targeted areas.
