In the context of regular technical follow-up on the Sub-grant Initiative projects, the Association of Palestinian Local Authorities (APLA) carried out a field visit to the village of Tayba. During the tour, APLA completed the technical handover procedures for the Public Park construction project. This project is part of a package of interventions implemented by APLA with support from the European Union and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). It reflects APLA’s commitment to supporting and enabling local government units (LGUs) to develop public facilities that respond to community needs, particularly in Area C.
The project aims to establish a multi-purpose public park that provides an environmental and health-friendly space for all community groups. The design includes green spaces, safe play zones for children, family seating areas, and social spaces prepared for community activities. Incorporates an economic component, the project allocates retail kiosks within the park to be leased to community members, contributing to the village council’s own-source revenues and creating direct employment opportunities, especially for youth and women.
This intervention serves as a practical example of the role village councils play in delivering community-driven development services. It reflects APLA’s commitment to expanding the scope of LGU involvement in developing community infrastructure, bolstering social cohesion and enhancing equitable access to public spaces and vital services amid the complex challenges facing these areas.
