The Association of Palestinian Local Authorities (APLA) organized a field visit to Faqqu’a Village Council to receive the Faqqu’a Public Park development project. The initiative was implemented to create a space for village citizens from diverse backgrounds to interact. In the context of the Sub-grants Initiative for the so-called Area C, launched by APLA with support from the European Union, the project aimed at implementing development projects and promoting community resilience in these areas.
Faqqu’a Village Council provided a thorough explanation of the project activities, including construction of green spaces, children’s play areas, and community facilities for the youth and women. Integrated services also take up the concept of inclusion and respond to the needs of all residents, including persons with disabilities. The council highlighted the project’s expected positive impact on local economy and community development. Along this vein, it created new employment opportunities, leases vendor stalls to households with limited income, and establishes a major attraction for tourist trails. The Faqqu’a Iris, the unique national flower, will emerge as an environmental and cultural symbol, promoting the status of the area as an extraordinary tourist destination, strengthening its environmental identity, attracting visitors and enhancing awareness of natural heritage.
The project is a distinctive model of fruitful cooperation between LGUs and local and international partners. It reflects APLA’s vision of local community improvement and sustainable development. The project was implemented in partnership between Faqqu’a Village Council, Faqqu’a Women Centre, Al-Amal Charity Association for the Disabled and Faqqu’a Consumer Cooperative Society. These provided effective support to the council, funded and took part in operating and ensuring sustainability of the project.
