The Association of Palestinian Local Authorities "APLA" conducted a workshop titled "Naming and Numbering Streets and Buildings" as part of the activities of Creativity and Innovation Platform, specialized in GIS issues, with the aim of providing a national manual for naming and numbering in addition to presenting the best practices and practical experience of local authorities. A group of 50 participants from the specialized departments at local authorities attended the workshop.
The workshop was organized in partnership with the Ministry of Local Government "MoLG" and the Association of Netherland Local Authorities, under APLA's Multi-Annual Action Plan "MAAP", mainly funded by EU. The Coordinator of Strategic Development Planning for Palestinian Cities and Local Authorities SDIP at MoLG, Hussein Abu Sa'dah, discussed the importance of the naming and numbering process as well as the need for Palestinian local authorities to implement it. Moreover, he discussed the importance of a National Manual for local authorities to follow. Meanwhile, the Officer of the Naming and Number Project at the Association of Netherland Local Authorities, Eng. Haya Qasim, presented the decentralization project in property tax, which aims to enhance the management of administrative and geographical data at Palestinian local authorities.
As for the experience of Palestinian municipalities, Hebron, Ramallah and Qalqilya municipalities presented their experiences in the area of naming and numbering, as Eng. Rawan Abu Aisheh, Hebron Municipality, clarified the difference between the postal code and address processes, and gave detailed examples. Meanwhile, Eng. Nour Jaber, provided a summary on the projects of Qalqilya Municipality at the GIS department, phases of naming and numbering projects, and Eng. Husam Al-Jada' discussed the challenges that faced Ramallah Municipality during the implementation of the Naming and Numbering Project, in addition to the added value of the project.
