APLA's Executive Committee Convene its 7th Meeting

The Association of Palestinian Local Authorities (APLA) Executive Committee held its 7th meeting on the 18th of March 2018, in Ramallah.

During the meeting, the Executive Committee discussed the developments related to the Mayors and Councilors of the Local Authorities Bylaws, as it reviewed the signed agreement between APLA and the Ministry of Local Government which entails to "Suspend the current Local Authorities Presidents and Members Bylaw, and temporary following the old bylaw, along with forming a joint committee between the Ministry of Local Government, APLA, the Ministry of Justice, and the Prime Ministry to form a new Bylaw". The decision is to continue working on this file until the decision is adopted by the Palestinian Cabinet.    

The Executive Committee praised his Excellency the Minister of Local Governance and the Ministry Staff Collaboration and positive response to APLA's demands regarding this matter.

APLA's Executive Committee called on all Local Authorities in Palestine to pay APLA its membership fees for the year 2017, in order to enable APLA to perform its duties and fulfill its various obligations.

The Executive Committee also decided on a number of activities and events during the next phase, such as:

  • Organizing a workshop for Local Authorities related to the internal municipal audit and control mechanisms.
  • Continue working on the notes concerning the draft “billboards Bylaw”, and conduct an extensive meeting to discuss all the comments for compatibility with the Ministry of Local Government on the final version.
  • Start executing the joint project between APLA and the European Union (EU) regarding the completion of APLA's institutional development, and establishing the Local Authorities' technical and legal support unit.
  • Forming and signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between APLA and the Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) to enhance the media coverage for Local Authorities’ various activities.
  • Correspond with different Local Authorities to request news and special events related to them, and publish them on APLA's Facebook page.
