Completing the Series of Orientation Sessions for the Elected Local Authorities’ Councils 2021

 

The Association of Palestinian Local Authorities (APLA) concluded a series of orientation sessions for the local authorities’ councils elected in 2021, organized by the Ministry of Local Government in partnership with APLA, funded by LGRP-GIZ. Approximately 855 of Mayors and members of elected local councils attended and participated in the sessions.

 

APLA's President, Eng. Musa Hadid, during his inauguration of the orientation sessions series in Jerusalem governorate said "Building and development processes are ongoing through the efforts of all components of the local governance sector, despite the challenges and hardships facing the work of local authorities". He emphasized the importance of the role played by the local authorities in Jerusalem governorate in terms of providing services to our people and maintaining civil peace, despite the tough conditions and obstacles the occupation tries to impose by blocking the wheel of comprehensive local development.

 

Minister of Local Government, Eng. Al-Saleh emphasized that launching this series of orientation and awareness session for local authorities in Jerusalem governorate, is part of the keenness to give this governorate, which is dear to all our hearts, importance and priority at various levels, in all fields and aspects of daily life.

 

During the meeting that was held in Hebron Governorate, APLA's Vice President, Mayor of Hebron, Taysir Abu Sneineh, clarified APLA's role in supporting local authorities, defending their rights and interests in a way that enhances the powers granted to them for the optimal provision of services. He also praised the complementary relation and true partnership between APLA and the Ministry, especially concerning the amendment, revision and drafting of regulations, laws and policies.

 

Deputy Minister of Local Government, Dr. Tawfik Al-Budairi, in return, emphasized the importance of adhering to the laws and regulations regulating the work of the local governance sector in Palestine, which shall empower municipal and village councils to perform its role in the most optimal manner, realizing public interest and civil peace.

 

Head of Technical and Legal Support Unit at APLA, Eng. Abdelmo'men Afanah, during the orientation session held in Jenin Governorate, praised the complementary and participatory relation between APLA and the Ministry of Local Government, especially with regards to the organization and development of the local governance sector through revision of the legislations regulating it, including laws, regulations, provisions, manuals and guidelines. In addition, he emphasized APLA's eagerness to support local authorities, defend their rights and interests, enhancing their capacities and granted powers, maintaining its proper performance in terms of legal aspects.

 

Eng. Afanah expressed APLA's absolute readiness to provide support to local authorities through its programs that aim at enhancing the capacities of local authorities and all of its components, representing local authorities on both local and international levels, and provide consultative services to members in technical and legal aspects in order to advance the level of services provided to citizens
