The Executive Director of the Association of Palestinian LGUs(APLA), Abdallah Anati, welcomed at APLA’s headquarters the Deputy Mayor of Hebron Municipality, Dr. Asmaa Sharabati, accompanied by members of the Municipal Council, alongside municipal staff and APLA team members. The meeting took place within the framework of strengthening institutional communication and enhancing joint coordination between APLA and its member local authorities.
The discussion focused on the challenges facing LGUs under the current circumstances, particularly financial and service-related pressures, and highlighted the central role played by APLA in representing LGUs and defending their interests at the national and international levels. Dr. Sharabati and the Municipal Council members expressed their appreciation for APLA’s role, reaffirming their confidence in APLA as an inclusive national framework that reflects the voice of LGUs and supports them in addressing growing challenges. They also emphasized the increasing need of municipalities for a strong and effective Association that stands alongside them.
For his part, the Executive Director welcomed these remarks, stressing that APLA derives its strength from its member municipalities, and that the current phase requires greater solidarity, joint action, and enhanced coordination. He underlined the importance of safeguarding local governance mandates and strengthening the capacity of LGUs to respond to citizens’ needs.
The meeting comes as part of APLA’s ongoing efforts to deepen partnership with LGUs and remain closely engaged with their priorities, in a manner that strengthens municipal action and serves the public interest.
