The Association of Palestinian Local Authorities (APLA) received the completed works of the Public Park Rehabilitation Project in the Huwwara Municipality. This was an activity of the Local Authorities Network for Sustainable Development (LAND) project, implemented in partnership with FELCOS Umbria and with support from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and Union of Municipalities of Trasimeno.
This project is a component of the Regional Environmental Plan for the Southern Nablus cluster, which seeks to strengthen the environmental management of public spaces and improve the quality of services provided to residents through sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions. The rehabilitation works covered an area of some 3.5 dunums within the park and included the restoration of key facilities and infrastructure, expansion of green areas, installation of solar-powered lighting systems, and provision of waste-sorting containers to support solid waste management at the local level.
This project reflects APLA’s approach to integrating environmental dimensions into municipal action and applying practical development practices that contribute to improving the urban landscape and enhancing the capacity of Palestinian municipalities for sustainable environmental planning and management. It also highlights the key role of LGUs in protecting natural resources and addressing the impacts of urban expansion and settlement activities in Palestinian communities.
