APLA provides 17 village councils with waste containers to improve environmental management under the LAND project

In line with its efforts to promote sustainable solid waste management and enhance environmental service quality, the Association of Palestinian Local Authorities (APLA) implemented a logistical intervention that included the provision of more than 1,000 waste containers for the benefit of 17 village councils in the West Ramallah and South Nablus clusters. The activity is part of the Local Authorities Network for Sustainable Development (LAND) project, implemented in partnership with the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), Union of Municipalities of Umbria, Union of Municipalities of Trasimeno, and FELCOS Umbria.

The intervention also distributed containers designated for the separation of organic waste to a number of public schools in the four central municipalities within the targeted clusters, namely, Beit Liqya, Ni’lin, Huwwara, and Beita. In each community, two schools received these containers. This activity builds upon previous awareness-raising programs implemented by APLA under the LAND project. These aimed to instill a culture of source separation, promote recycling practices, and raise environmental awareness among students and teaching staff, contributing to sustainable environmental behavior in both the school environment and the local community.

This activity is part of a series of strategic interventions led by APLA to empower local government units to improve solid waste management and reduce environmental pollution. To this end, APLA supports regional environmental plans and provision of necessary infrastructure. These efforts contribute to enhancing the efficiency of public services and improving the quality of life in the targeted communities.
