The Association of Palestinian Local Authorities (APLA) announced the start of work to develop an integrated digital hub, namely, the “Baladiyah Meter”. The hub allows immediate access for citizens and relevant institutions to clear and accurate information on the plans, activities and achievements of local government units (LGUs) in various areas. The “Municipality Meter” contributes to strengthening and promoting confidence and partnership between citizens and LGUs to achieve local development and improve public service provision.
In the pilot phase, the “Baladiyah Meter” platform will be operated in five municipalities, which have been strategically selected to test its functions, collect users’ feedback, and make needed adjustments. When expanded, the platform will provide an integrated tool to monitor and evaluate performance throughout LGUs in Palestine.
The platform builds on APLA’s efforts to promote good governance, transparency, accountability, and community engagement in LGUs operations. It is implemented through the Promotion of Accountability and Transparency within Palestinian LGUs project, funded by the UNDP Transparency, Evidence and Accountability (TEA3) Programme.
