The Association of Palestinian Local Authorities "APLA" conducted a training course for its staff on the basic concepts of Gender, with the aim of raising their awareness on gender issues to link it to their plans, action programs and projects. This comes in continuation of APLA's efforts aiming to realize inclusion in the work of local authorities, and guarantee the consideration of the various needs and active participation of marginalized groups in the local communities through capacity development, empowerment and advocacy programs it implements.

The training, led by gender expert Fida' Al-Barghouthi, explored various topics related to APLA's work, a presentation of gender as a social construct that includes roles and responsibilities of individuals, while emphasizing that gender concepts go beyond the binary definition of gender as male and female. In addition, it discussed the importance of including gender in the development initiatives and policies, as well as its impact on all aspects, social, economic and political, and its role in enhancing sustainable development. Furthermore, there are the practical and strategic gender needs associated with access and control of resources in order to achieve a more just and balanced society.

This training comes as part of APLA's staff capacity development plan funded by LGRP/GIZ aiming to maintain continuous professional development and building the capacities of its employees, develop their knowledge and skills in order to achieve APLA's goals and keep up with local, regional and global efforts.
