APLA conducts a Series of Workshops on the Inclusion of Issus of PwDs in the Local Authorities' Agendas

The Association of Palestinian Local Authorities (APLA) concluded a series of workshops under the title "Inclusion of Issues of People with Disabilities in Local Authorities' Agendas", conducted over six days with the participation of 115 representatives of local authorities from various areas of the West Bank under the project "Promoting the Rights of People with Disabilities in Palestine". The project is implemented in partnership with EducAid and funded by AICS.

 

The Activities Coordinator at APLA, Shoruq Rabee', presented the most important dimensions that will be focused on during the project, elaborating that APLA seeks to provide support and aid to local authorities in issues of People with Disabilities' empowerment and integration through enhancing their capacities in relevant issues.

 

The workshops included presentations on the reality of people with disabilities in Palestine, the conceptual framework of disability, the legal framework regulating the rights of people with disabilities, in addition to a detailed discussion with participants on practical mechanisms to be adopted in order to activate the role of local authorities and enhance their capacities, capabilities and competences in adopting and integrating the priorities of persons with disabilities into municipal work.

 

Trainers Mohammad Abu Khalil and Wala' Al-Jamal conducted workshops that targeted local authorities in the middle areas, at Al-Bireh Municipality, while trainers Hamad Samamrah and Atheer Abu Rayyan conducted workshops in the southern areas, held at Hebron and Bethlehem municipalities, and trainers Ghadeer Ya'ish and Sali Zyoud conducted workshops in the northern areas, held at Nablus and Anabta municipalities.
