As part of its efforts to institutionalize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Taskforce and strengthen the engagement of Palestinian local government units (LGUs) in global development, the Association of Palestinian Local Authorities (APLA) held a focused training on Sustainable Development Goals Related to Decentralized Cooperation and Governance. The training brought together 30 LGUs from the governorates of Nablus, Ramallah, and Hebron.
Over six sessions, Dr. Abdul Fattah al-Shamleh, an expert, delivered content that combined theoretical frameworks with interactive activities, highlighting decentralized cooperation as a tool to enhance local development and build effective partnerships. The training also highlighted the concept of governance as a framework that ensures multi-level transparency, accountability, and integrity. Participants were given the opportunity to share experiences, review international case studies, and draw practical lessons to support their capacity to develop sustainable proposals and partnerships.
This workshop is part of the Municipal Technical Exchange Hubs project, implemented with the support of the GIZ Local Governance Reform Program. The initiative incorporates seven key hubs: Engineering and Planning, Social Inclusion and Integration, Financial Management, Public Relations, Creativity and Innovation, SDGs, and Village Councils.
