APLA Holds a Training on Using the New Planning Manuals

The Association of Palestinian Local Authorities (APLA) held a training for the members of the Engineering and Planning Hub on using the New Planning Manuals, with the aim of developing and providing participants with knowledge and skills on how to use the New Planning Manuals including the detailed planning and standards of urban planning. The training was attended by 82 participants from the Engineering and Planning departments at local authorities as well as representatives from the Ministry of Local Government and Local Government Directorates


The advisory office with the participation of a group of trainers addressed the goal of the workshop providing a presentation on the manual's parts, and a clarification on the concepts of detailed planning, detailed regulatory scheme, detailed masterplan, regulatory modification scheme, forms and types of detailed schemes, in addition to the importance of urban design and introducing sustainable urban design, in addition to presenting the legal and institutional framework for detailed schemes.

 

The training relied on interactive exercises, dividing participants into groups working on studying the standards for developing alternative design for a detailed scheme project and develop a proposed design or alternative designs for detailed scheme project. Additionally, participants presented the contents of the Urban Planning Standards Manual with a focus on the most important standards through forming groups to work on studying the areas that need urban planning applying the standards based on the Urban Planning Manual.

 

It is worth mentioning that this workshop was conducted under the Technical Hub Project for exchanging experiences among local authorities, implemented in partnership between APLA and LGRP-GIZ. It comprises of five Hubs: Engineering and Planning Hub; Financial Management Hub; Public Relations Hub; Village Councils' Hub; and Creativity and Innovation Hub.
