APLA chairs a session on urban planning at the annual meeting of UCLG

The Association of Palestinian Local Authorities’ president Eng. Musa Hadid chaired the annual meeting of UCLG, in his capacity as co-chair of the UCLG-MEWA Section of the organization for the Middle East and West Asia. The meeting was held in the presence of the Mayors of the organization, Secretaries of departments and committees, and representatives of policy councils in all its sections.

The participation of Eng. Hadid was around flexible and sustainable urban planning as one of the five priorities identified for the organization’s Middle East and West Asia section. This is because this area is the most affected by the repercussions of the concentration of population in cities and the great and diverse challenges left by human practices that do not start with lack of resources or the occurrence of wars, conflicts and migration, in addition to natural disasters; such as earthquakes, floods and climate change.

In this regard, he pointed out that dealing with these issues requires urban and sustainable planning to enable LGUs to deal with these challenges and identify the needs necessary to confront them, including financial, human, and natural and other resources. He added that urban planning should not be limited to responding to disasters, but rather we must strive to proactively preventing these disasters.
